Our Qualifications Explained

With so many different qualifications available, this page provides a detailed overview of the courses available at Hadlow College and what you can achieve by studying with us.

Foundation Level

These provide a stepping stone to our Level 1 courses and allow students to focus on a specific area; developing their skills and confidence.   All of our courses have the same three sections – personal and social development, vocational skills and functional skills – which give additional communication, numeracy and study skills.

Level 1

Suitable for students with two GCSEs at Grade D-E or a relevant Entry Level 3 qualification, Level 1 courses are usually one year in length and contain some maths and English.  All our Level 1 qualifications have progression routes onto the next level of study (subject to satisfactory performance) and, for many students, these courses offer an ideal opportunity to increase skills, learn in a more hands-on way, and improve future career prospects.

Level 2

Available to students with four GCSEs at Grades C-D, including two in English, maths and science, these courses are equivalent to five GCSEs at Grades A* - C.  They are designed to give direct entry to craft and junior level employment positions within your chosen industry and offer progression onto Level 3 courses.  Typically, our Level 2 qualifications are one year in duration and include some maths and English.

Level 3

Designed as university entrance level qualifications, these courses are typically two years in duration and suitable for students with five GCSEs at grades A*-C, including two in English, maths and/or science.  Where this entry criteria has not quite been met, the College does also offer a 90 credit Diploma option, achievement of this at Merit will allow the student the option of progressing onto the second year of the course. All of our Level 3 qualifications include work experience as a fundamental part of the course and are designed to prepare students for direct entry into employment or enable them to move on to higher education (such as a university-level course).

A Merit grade on our Level 3 Extended Diploma will give 240 UCAS points, a Distinction 360 UCAS points and a Distinction* 420 UCAS points (the equivalent to three A* grades at A Level).
