Before commencing your application, please ensure you have the details of two people who can act as references (for a full-time course), one of which ideally should be from your school or college.  You will also be asked to confirm details of any qualifications you're currently taking (such as GCSEs) together with predicted grades.

To apply for part-time courses you will just need to confirm the course, campus, your contact details and payment method.

Preparation for BHS Certificate in Horse Care, Stage 1

This course is designed to prepare students for the British Horse Society Stage 1 Qualification.

It is anticipated that the course will appeal to students who have a passion for horses and wish  to extend their experience and knowledge to allow them to begin a career within the equine industry. Students will be trained by qualified, experienced staff in the principles of horse care, handling horses and practical equitation.

Delivery consists of theory and practical sessions which will be progressive and tailored to meet the needs of individual students. Students will benefit from excellent facilities and resources including well trained and responsive horses.


Course Duration:

Part Time

1 session per week, 34 weeks.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview. 

Some basic horse handling experience is required as well as a keen interest in providing good care to horses. For the riding element the students will be required to take an assessment on a prearranged date.

In order to take the exam at the end of the course students will need to be a Gold member of the British Horse Society.
