About this course:
The Introductory Award in Education and Training from Canterbury Christ Church University is a 20-credit, level 4 introductory course to teaching in the lifelong learning sector. This qualification
provides a threshold licence to teach leading to further training or can be a stepping stone into teaching. You do not have to be in a teaching role to undertake the course. The short course consists
of 1 module, and you can be awarded credit for this module should you decide to join the Diploma or Certificate programme at a later stage.
On this course you will gain an insight into the key skills and attributes of an effective teacher. With a focus on the principles of planning and classroom management you will learn how to plan lessons that include a range of teaching strategies that engage and actively involve learners. You will also learn how to assess and give constructive feedback that motivates learners. Please note, this qualification will not entitle you to teach in the schools’ sector.
How you will be assessed:
1. Progress Log
2. 15 minute micro-teach
3. Reflection on a peer observation
14 weeks, 1 session a week
Assessments for this qualification comprise a 15 minute micro-teach, individual reflections, entries in a progress log and an essay. You will also take part in class discussions, practical work and online activities.
GCSE English and maths at A*-C or equivalent.
A qualification at level 3 or above in your area of expertise.
All candidates are required to complete a short written task prior to interview in addition to their existing qualifications.
On successful completion of the Introductory Award you may progress onto the Certificate in Education and Training or the Diploma in Education and Training.
