Formerly known as an NVQ, and taking place in the workplace at a suitable time arranged with your assessor, this course is aimed at students who are already working in this specialist sector and is ideal for students who are already greenkeepers or groundsmen. Complementing your existing experience with a mix of theory and practical training, by the end of the course you will have gained an understanding of the different stresses the playing surface experiences and how to effectively maintain them.
- Monitoring and maintaining health and safety
- Maintain and develop personal performance
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Preparing ground for seeding and planting
- Establishing plants and/or seeds in soil
- Maintain the health of sports turf
- Renovate and repair sports surfaces
- Use and maintain ride-on equipment
Plus optional units relevant to the industry within which the candidate works.
Diploma: Portfolio of evidence and practical assessment.
Intermediate apprenticeship: portfolio of evidence, practical assessment and underpinning knowledge test
Students must be employed or in a one year work placement within the industry.
Successful students can progress their career with their employer.
We offer intermediate apprenticeships, advanced apprenticeships and fee-paying routes into agriculture and horticulture. These qualifications, whch are recongised by Lantra, can be tailored to suit the employer and their needs. Apprenticeships are available to students in suitable employment who are aged between 16-18 years old (fully funded) or 19-24 years old (with an employer contribution towards the cost of tuition).
