Before commencing your application, please ensure you have the details of two people who can act as references (for a full-time course), one of which ideally should be from your school or college.  You will also be asked to confirm details of any qualifications you're currently taking (such as GCSEs) together with predicted grades.

To apply for part-time courses you will just need to confirm the course, campus, your contact details and payment method.

Please note that for higher education and degree programmes, students need to apply through UCAS.

Level 2 Certificate for Proficiency in Brewing Industry Skills

Aimed at students who wish to work within the brewing sector, this course gives an understanding of brewing and enables you to develop specific skills and specialist brewing knowledge, which supports career progression in a number of industry roles.

Course Content:

  • Control fermentation in brewing
  • Control yeast cropping and storage in brewing
  • Control yeast selection, treatment and pitching in brewing
  • Control kegging in brewing
  • Carry out sampling for quality control in brewing  operations
  • Work effectively with others in food operations
  • Principles of brewhouse processes in brewing
  • Principles of the brewing industry and beer production

Plus optional units relevant to the industry within which the candidate works

Assessment Method:

Delivered in the workplace through a range of practical observations of work,  knowledge and understanding of the principles of brewing.  In addition, there will be project work and self-study.

Entry Requirements:

There are no specific entry requirements however, students will need a good level of English, maths and science, as well as a keen interest in the brewing and craft brewing industries.  Students will possess self-motivation skills, communication skills and a willingness to learn.

Progression Routes:

Successful students can progress their career with their employer.


We offer intermediate apprenticeships, advanced apprenticeships and fee-paying routes into agriculture and horticulture. These qualifications, whch are recongised by Lantra, can be tailored to suit the employer and their needs. Apprenticeships are available to students in suitable employment who are aged between 16-18 years old (fully funded) or 19-24 years old (with an employer contribution towards the cost of tuition).
