Thank you for considering Hadlow College.

Before commencing your application, please ensure you have the details of two people who can act as references (for a full-time course), one of which ideally should be from your school or college.  You will also be asked to confirm details of any qualifications you're currently taking (such as GCSEs) together with predicted grades.

To apply for part-time courses you will just need to confirm the course, campus, your contact details and payment method.

Please note that for higher education and degree programmes, students need to apply through UCAS.

Level 3 Award, Certificate or Diploma in Work-Based Horticulture (Production Horticulture)

Formerly known as an NVQ, and taking place in the workplace at a suitable time arranged with your assessor, this course builds on the competencies gained at Level 2 with students benefiting from a blend of theory and practical assessments all aimed at maximising their potential. It can be tailored to specifically examine the issues in the nursery, fruit or glasshouse sectors. You will gain basic management and supervisory skills as well as a greater understanding of specific horticultural knowledge. You will be responsible for much of your own learning and evidence generation with the assessor providing guidance where necessary.

  • Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security
  • Communicate information within the organisation
  • Maintain and store records within the workplace
  • Provide nutrients to plants or crops
  • Manage your own resources
  • Plan and manage the control of pests, diseases and disorders

Plus optional units relevant to the industry within which the candidate works.

Assessment Method:

Portfolio of evidence, practical assessments, projects and assignments.

Entry Requirements:

Students must be in a position of responsibility within the industry and possess the Diploma in Work-Based Horticulture (Level 2) qualification

Progression Routes:

Successful students can progress their career with their employer.

Apprenticeships

We offer intermediate apprenticeships, advanced apprenticeships and fee-paying routes into agriculture and horticulture. These qualifications, whch are recongised by Lantra, can be tailored to suit the employer and their needs. Apprenticeships are available to students in suitable employment who are aged between 16-18 years old (fully funded) or 19-24 years old (with an employer contribution towards the cost of tuition).
