A Big Catch for Charity

Posted on 19th July 2016 in Fisheries Management

On the 15th June, our Extended Diploma in Fish Management Year 1 students organised a charity fishing match at Claygate Lakes, Marden, for the entire cohort of Further Education students from Fisheries: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 (year 2), as part of their Angling Unit.

The enterprising students organised the whole event: the venue, prizes, advertising and transport – and chose Lucy’s Bowl, which raises money for Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, as their charity.

The overall winner was Finley Rich from Level 2 with a weight of 38lb 2oz. 2nd place went to Kevin Donovan, Fisheries Lecturer, with a weight of 27lb and 3rd place went to Martin Parker, Level 3, with a weight of 26lb 2oz. Toby Hayward, Level 1, took 4th place, with a weight of 24lb 8oz.

Some excellent prizes were donated by Jag Products, who were very generous with their gifts of buzz bar sets, banksticks and a buzz bar bag.

Matt Vidal, Course Manager and Lecturer, said, “Overall, the event was a massive success with everyone enjoying an excellent day’s fishing and raising a total of £385.47 in the process – this is a great achievement and a valuable donation to the charity.”
