On Sunday 25th May, second year students from the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management once again successfully organised the Annual Horse Show.

Comprising part of their event management unit, at the beginning of the year the students form a committee and are allocated roles including secretary, treasurer, site organiser, marketing etc. Throughout the year the students plan and undertake all of the tasks associated with preparing for the event.  These tasks include; writing letters to judges and sponsors, designing the site plan, planning jumping courses, risk assessments, preparing the fields for the day of the show making sure they are topped/harrowed/rolled and neat and tidy.

There were a total of 26 classes running over 6 rings, including showing, dressage, working hunter and a ‘fun’ ring.  Competitors could also have a go at the clear round jumping, which ran all day in the outdoor arena for £4.00 per round.  About 100 competitors attended, some bringing more than one horse, making a total of 145 horses.  This also included some other equine students from other courses competing on their own horses or riding college horses.

It was a very well organised and busy event with the most popular class being class 24, Prettiest Mare and Handsomest Gelding which had 35 entrants!

Sponsors were NFU, Broadfeed, Hadlow Farm Shop and Stanford Photograpghic.  With all plants and flowers around the showground being provided by our Hadlow College Broadview Garden Centre.

Well done to all involved students, competitors and horses!  Planning for next years’ show will start from September 2014.
