Blue Cross Cattery Update

Posted on 22nd October 2015 in Animal Management

Since we teamed up with the Blue Cross animal charity at the end of 2014 opening our first Cattery, we have taken in 16 cats, plus 5 kittens and have successfully rehomed a total of 13 cats.

The purpose built facility at our Mottingham site is now a fully operational rehoming centre, the cattery is buzzing with activity and has a waiting list for those needing to give up a cat.

Our Animal Management students are now well involved with the daily care and running of the centre and are benefitting from this excellent opportunity, working alongside this nationally recognised charity.  As well as all of the practical duties of cat handling and husbandry, students are also gaining customer care and administration skills.

Students have enjoyed seeing many success stories of cats in their care, from the first day the cat has arrived then watching it’s confidence grow, all helping towards finding a new loving home.  They also enjoy hearing from the new owners about how the animal has settled in.

Many of our students often volunteer their spare time to help socialise, groom and play with the cats.  Students have donated various items from towels and toys to bowls and food.  One current Extended Diploma year 2 student’s Grandmother has been busy and has knitted a toy mouse for each cat and several blankets!
