Colchester Zoo Study Tour

Posted on 3rd November 2014 in Animal Management

55 Students studying for their degrees in Animal Management, Animal Conservation and Biodiversity and Animal Behavioural Science and Welfare recently benefitted from a study trip to Colchester Zoo.

Whilst at the zoo 12 of the students attended an animal training workshop focused around some species of rare goat.  This counted towards the Animal Training module of their Animal Behavioural Science and Welfare programme.  They also experienced carpet pythons, bearded dragon (lizard), rats, rabbits, insects and sheep.

The remaining students learnt about the conservation and behaviour of a range of wild captive animals.

Colchester Zoo is constantly developing and has won many awards for its work.  Visiting the zoo and observing the animals really helps with familiarisation of the species, to embed what has been learnt in the classroom and promote independent learning.
