Fisheries study tour to Elphicks Fisheries
Our Extended Diploma in Fish Management Year 1 and 2 students have recently enjoyed a study tour to Elphicks Fisheries in Tonbridge.
The students were treated to a full tour of the lakes and facilities on site, followed by a talk from the Fisheries Manager outlining a wide range of management strategies, with emphasis on the interaction/balance between fishery management and wildlife management. As well as setting up and running a commercial fishery. All of which, the learners found extremely beneficial.
Following the tour the students selected swims that they considered would give them a good chance of a bite and a draw took place. Each student was allocated a swim to fish – Prairie. Over the next 20hrs 32 fish were caught up to 20lb 4oz, with almost all students catching. The two top rods were John Billings and James Matthews who caught 8 and 7 fish respectively.
