Green-fingered Gather at Hadlow College for Sold-out recording of BBC R4’s Gardeners’ Question Time

Posted on 18th February 2016 in Horticulture, Events

Hadlow College saw a packed Pym Hall last Thursday evening, with 150 local residents attending a recording of the flagship BBC Radio 4 programme, Gardeners’ Question Time.

There was a lively atmosphere to the sold-out event, as host Eric Robson bantered with the audience and steered proceedings with his customary dry wit. The programme had a loose evolution theme, with segments focusing on Charles Darwin’s connections with Kent and his time spent at Down House.

The panellists - Pippa Greenwood, Matt Biggs and Anne Swithinbank - had their collective horticultural mettle tested with questions from members of North Tonbridge Horticultural Society, a former Hadlow College student and even a current member of Hadlow staff.

The resulting discussions ran the gardening gamut from flowers fit for a Royal celebration to bizarrely-shaped fungi.

Organiser Stephen Harmer MA, Landscape and Horticulture Lecturer, commented: “The panellists broad knowledge was impressive and the audience’s good humour made for a fantastic evening.”

The programme will be broadcast on Friday 4th March.
