Hadlow College Recognised as a Leader in Diversity

Leaders in Diversity logoHadlow College has recently been awarded the prestigious Leaders in Diversity award in recognition of its commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).  At present, there are only three other colleges nationally with the same accreditation.

Throughout the two year process, during which the College gained the Investors in Diversity award, all staff and students at the College were surveyed as to their understanding of EDI.  The results showed that the vast majority felt there was a culture of acceptance within the College and that both staff and students have a high awareness of EDI issues.

Commenting on some of the measures taken by the College to embed this subject, the report praised the “innovative and comprehensive ways in which all stakeholders have been supported” and drew attention to the Globetrotting enrichment initiative, as well as the regular training on EDI and related issues which is given to all staff, senior staff and Governors.

A key element of the Leaders in Diversity Award, which is the highest award for EDI, focused on how the College has shared its good practices, worked with external organisations and generally acted as an ambassador for EDI within the sector.  Here, the report highlighted the College’s links with external partners (including Royal British Legion Industries), our Business Advisory Council  and commitment to supporting an ethical supply chain.

In summary, the report stated that the assessor was “most impressed with the positive energy, hospitality and openness that I have experienced as part of my contact with the College.”   The award is accredited by the National Centre for Diversity and valid for 24 months.
