Hadlow College to Host World Skills Floristry Competition

Posted on 19th May 2014 in Floristry

On Sunday 1st June, competitors from around the South-East will be taking part in the regional heat for the World Skills UK floristry competition which, this year, is being hosted by Hadlow College.

Providing an opportunity for florists to demonstrate their creative and technical skills, at either an advanced or higher level, they will need to demonstrate a range of skills including:

  • knowledge of the principles and elements of design
  • colour harmony
  • originality
  • design techniques

The competition consists of a number of live heats where competitors are assigned tasks before a talk, demonstration and presenting of the awards.  It is open anyone who is working or training in the floristry industry, and currently completing an apprenticeship or working towards a level 3, 4 or 5 qualification.

Four students, two at the intermediate level and two at the advanced level, from Hadlow will be amongst those taking part.  Their next step, should they be successful, will be the national competition which takes place at the NEC in November.

If you would like to come and support all competitors, members of the public are able to watch for free.  Please contact the College on 01732 850551 for more information.
