The Hadlow Group is delighted to announce that it was named Top Public Sector Company at The Institute of Fiscal Turnaround Awards, held on 24th November at London’s Landmark Hotel.
The award is for a successful and sustainable turnaround/transformation of a public sector organisation, executed with transparency and integrity, and involving a team of professionals and management.
The judges commented: “Hadlow is a first rate long-term turnaround in the education sector…It was saved from closure and transformed in terms of educational outcomes from Ofsted grade “Inadequate” to “Outstanding.” It is now a successful organisation, which continues to transform other schools and to lead regeneration projects in Kent, including the foundation of a massive eco-park on a former colliery site, providing 1,000 jobs.
“In the eight years which followed the turnaround, Hadlow College had jumped two Ofsted grades and has become one of the educational establishments of its kind least dependent on government funding. Group turnover has grown from £3.5 million recording losses to more than £49 million and sector-beating financial ratios.”
The turnaround has been driven by a resilient revenue strategy, deriving income in thirds from further education, higher education and commercial activities.
Paul Hannan, Principal and Chief Executive of The Hadlow Group, said: “We’re thrilled to win the IFT’s Public Sector Company 2016 award. This could not have been achieved without the dedication and commitment of the staff who are always prepared to go extra miles.
“The award recognises and celebrates the journey of Hadlow from its faltering days of 2002 to Ofsted Outstanding in 2010 and the Hadlow Group of today. We are immensely proud of having the privilege of leading projects that are resulting in so many social and economic benefits.”
Deputy Principal and Deputy CEO, Mark Lumsdon-Taylor, who picked up the award, added: “Hadlow College, now The Hadlow Group, has undergone an impressive transformation from a small £3m land-based college into a £50m fully-commercial, student and business-focused educational group.
“The staff are the engine room of this organisation and the impact they have on every single student and business we engage with is inspirational.
“We are delighted that the key role played by further education colleges is championed at the highest level. We are more than educators, we are agents for economic and social regeneration.”
