Hadlow Student Selected as Finalist for Prestigious British Florist Association Industry Award
We are delighted to announce that one of our students has been selected as a finalist for a prestigious British Florist Association Industry Award in the ‘Florist Newcomer of the Year’ category. Hadlow College is also a shortlisted finalist for the ‘Training Provider of the Year’ award and one of our tutors, Caroline Miller, is nominated for ‘Floristry Tutor of the Year’.
Shayna Spencer, who has just completed her Level 2 Diploma in Floristry and is beginning Level 3, was put forward for the award by West Malling Flowers, the shop where she did her work placement and now works part-time. She was selected as a finalist from hundreds of applicants.
Tracy Benton, Lecturer & Course Manager for Level 2 Floristry, said: “Shayna is a hard-working, dedicated student who excels in all aspects of floristry. Her personal skills allow her to converse well with people of all ages and she is very much aware of people’s emotions. Shayna has progressed to Level 3 this year and I can see her going all the way. She has an excellent work ethic and placed in a fantastic award-winning florist.”
The winners will be announced at a gala dinner at the BFA FleurEx 2016 event, held on the 22nd and 23rd October at the Chesford Grange Hotel, Kenilworth, Warwickshire. This year, there were 17,000 votes across all categories – a record amount for the competition – which garners huge interest from the industry and will be hosting many international guests.
Shayna was also involved, along with other Hadlow College students, in helping to build a 21ft floral arch at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.
