Learning Resource Centre Continues to Improve

Posted on 13th August 2014 in General

Students returning to Hadlow College this September will notice some developments and improvements to their Learning Resource Centre (LRC), reflecting a more general move towards library services where hard copy and electronic resources have an equal place. The use our students made of e-resources last year is a clear sign of this and the LRC is continuing to focus on building a relevant e-resource collection.

Having many more places to look for information than ever before can make research quite challenging. The keys to success include a good understanding of the different types of information source, how to use them effectively and how to distinguish results that are useful and reliable from those that are not. These vital research skills will help students to produce good quality work and gain good grades.

This year the LRC's Moodle site provides a greater range of support, in different formats, to help students with research skills. There are written guides, videos, forums, and quizzes which enable students to assess their own strengths and identify any areas they may wish to improve.  In addition, to assist students with accessing these online resources, the number of computers within the LRC has also been significantly increased with a dedicated area on the Mezzanine Floor and a post of Learning Facilitator created.
