College Footballers to Benefit from Professional Pitch

Our Football Academy students will soon have the luxury of playing on a pitch that has been designed to professional standards.

The new football pitch, built with funding from the Football Foundation, has been designed with a camber down the middle of the pitch and outward slopes down each side line incorporating shallow swales beyond the run off area.  This design is found on a number of new professional pitches and, together with more traditional lateral slit drains, enables water to run quickly from the surface into the swales where it is channelled to a purpose made water attenuation pond via drains and new ditches.

The new pitch will open for use in September 2014 and it is hoped that, as well as providing an excellent playing area, it will also reduce the amount of games that need to be cancelled.

This modern sustainable drainage system also adds value for habitat, conservation and landscape design; acting as a beneficial resource for the land-based faculties of Horticulture, Countryside Management, Animal Management and Sustainability.

Our Countryside Management students will soon also be getting involved planting hedgerows around the pitches.

If you are interested in joining our Football Academy you will benefit from expert football coaching, competitive league experience and the opportunity to develop your skills.  All in addition to gaining either a Level 2 or Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport.

To sign up with the Academy you need to complete a football trial and a College interview to demonstrate you can meet the demands of the programme.   You will be part of a professional set up with high quality academic tutors, football coaches and facilities.  Plus, this year all of our trials will use video film feedback in all our player assessments - giving you a valuable resource to develop your skills.

If you think you've got what it takes to join the Academy team, please contact our Admissions Office.
