This course is designed to give students the practical and theoretical knowledge required for employment in the aquaculture, fisheries management, or environmental management sector. The course is designed to develop a range of employability skills that employers a range of aquatic industries require.
The course allows for a mixture of practical and theory lessons to be delivered, something that is essential for academic development but also adding progression into a practically skilled industry. Further to this it allows us to make use of the large estate available at Hadlow College which includes access to the specialist fisheries facilities. This includes Grove farm fishery, the fish farm, the River Bourne, Bourne hatchery and aquarium, enhancing the student experience and allowing them to work with current industry technology and techniques.
The course is aimed at those who want to gain employment in the fisheries, aquatics and aquaculture industries, or have a keen interest in employment within the environmental conservation and habitat management/improvement sector. This qualification will allow progression into management roles within a range of aquatic and environmental sectors including: aquaculture, fisheries or wildlife conservation management.
Utilisation of our higher education facilities and close links with a range of external collaborators allows we are able to offer students the opportunities to develop "real world" industry research opportunities to providing valuable once in a lifetime opportunities.
Aquaculture is one of the fastest growing food production sectors globally with 5.8 percent annual growth rate since 2010 creating a vast range of employment opportunities. With a number of human practices having the potential to cause environmental impacts, the development of an environmentally sustainable knowledge and skills set is an extremely important focus for anyone wishing to progression into a career within any of the sector mentioned previously.

Entry Requirements
Pass level FdSc, preferably in Aquaculture and Fisheries Management.

What progression options will I have?
Successful students can progress onto a related MSc or PhD programme. Alternatively, they may pursue a career in a number of positions throughout the industry. Typical employers include local authorities and public sector organisations such as The Environment Agency, as well as commercial fisheries, water companies, wholesalers and angling clubs. Past students are currently working for AJS Fisheries, Natural England, the Environment Agency, Ocean Matters, Aqua Biotech, University College London, Trafalgar Trout Farm, Loch Duart Salmon farm and Mid Kent Fisheries.
