This is a University of Greenwich programme.

This level 6 qualification in Horticulture - Commerical gives students an excellent preparation for working in the industry or going on into further higher education courses. The modules give exciting insight into the future of the industry both in the UK and overseas. All students will complete a dissertation and will benefit from the amazing resources and industry links enjoyed at Hadlow College to produce individual dissertations which have been nationally recognised.

Students will benefit from amazing facilities on campus which include a brand new Venlo glasshouse which is designed to have 2 separate hydroponic units which High pressure sodium lighting and LED lighting to allow a range of research to take place. A mixed growing area under glass which includes a fogging unit for plant propagation. The glasshouse is used to grow fresh produce (food crops)

In addition to the glasshouse students will use a new large twin span polytunnel and outdoor production area for a range of ornamental plants. All the plans grown are sold through our own on campus garden centre which is open to the public. We have 10 acres of formal gardens which are used for plant identification and the wider estate for tree identification.

A vertical growing farm is on campus and part of the horticultural nursery, this vertical farm utilities 3 separate growing layers to maximise the amount of fresh produce that can be produced from a small area. The vertical farm uses LED lights and has a bespoke environmental management system to allow students to experiment with light, nutrients, temperature and other growing requirements.

A orchard and vineyard on site covers an area of 3 hectares and produces apples, plums, apricots and cherries as well as the vineyard for wine production. This orchard is an exciting facility which has some of the latest innovative technology including growing crops under tunnels with a cooling system, frost protection system using irrigation, a robotic sprayer which targets sprays where they are needed to be as sustainable as possible, sensors to monitor every aspect of growing, de-leafing machines, crop thinning machines, a tractor mounted seeder designed for orchards to allow wild flowers to be grown within the orchard, root prunners and much more. The irrigation and fertiliser unit is the hub of the orchard where all the technology is controlled from and uses data gathered from the drone which flies through the orchard.

The above facilities means our foundation degree in horticulture prepares students to have amazing careers in all areas of commercial horticulture. Be part of our growing future
