Set amidst breathtaking surroundings, Hadlow’s main campus features a sprawling managed estate with over 265 acres of prime arable land, woodlands, a natural river, three commercial farms, and show gardens. Students can explore horticultural glasshouses, serene lakes, and diverse natural habitats. A sustainable orchard and vineyard—complete with cutting-edge technology—are the latest additions, providing an opportunity to learn sustainable farming techniques.
Animal Management
Our Animal Management Unit is among the finest in the country, offering hands-on experience with over 500 animals across 125+ species.
Facilities include:
- State-of-the-art aquatics, herpetology, and nocturnal sections, allowing students to gain unique working experiences.
- Opportunities to work with exotic carnivores, canids, and mongoose species in a zoo-like environment.
- Participation in national and international conservation programs to protect endangered species.
- A variety of domestic animals, including pigs, goats, alpacas, and poultry.
National Centre for Reptile Welfare (NCRW)
The first of its kind in the United Kingdom, this facility provides refuge and care for up to 600 unwanted and vulnerable reptiles and amphibians. Its mission is to rehome these animals through a national network of retailers and wholesalers, while improving knowledge about their care and welfare.
Horticulture
Our cutting-edge horticultural facilities include:
- A new glasshouse complex with automated, sustainable technologies.
- A 3-hectare robotic orchard producing apples, pears, cherries, and more using advanced harvesting and management systems.
- A vineyard focused on producing English wine and grape juice.
- A commercial nursery equipped with hydroponic growing systems introduced in 2022.
Broadview Gardens
Spread over 4 hectares, Broadview Gardens features individually designed themed gardens created by Hadlow staff and students. It’s the perfect place to relax and recharge during a busy day of study.
Faulkner’s Farm
This fully operational commercial farm is home to:
- 350 ewes, rotational grazing over 66 hectares, and lambing sheds.
- Opportunities to gain hands-on experience in lambing, shearing, and flock management.
Blackman’s Farm
Blackman’s Farmhouses:
- A herd of beef cattle grazing across 57 hectares.
- Collaborative opportunities with local dairy farms to gain comprehensive experience in both dairy and beef farming.
Equestrian
Our equestrian facilities are world-class, featuring:
- Stabling for 64 horses.
- Two international-sized indoor arenas, outdoor arenas, and paddocks.
- Regular competitions and training demonstrations from esteemed riders and trainers, including Mary and Emily King, Mark Todd, and Monty Roberts.
Fisheries and Aquaculture
Hadlow offers unmatched opportunities for students interested in fisheries and aquaculture:
- Aquarium tanks with advanced Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) featuring industry-standard equipment like commercial drum filters.
- A fully stocked fisheries hatchery with a variety of tropical and cold-water fish, giving students experience in fish welfare, accommodation, and husbandry techniques.
- Grove Farm Fishing Lake, a 2-hectare mixed coarse fishing lake and growing-on ponds. This facility operates as a commercial fishery and fish farm, offering practical experience in carp husbandry, modern fisheries management, and legislation.
