Are you interested in fishing or fisheries management but not sure where that can take you in the future? There are multiple career paths you can take after completing a Fisheries Management qualification at Hadlow College. Here’s a few of your options…
Fish Farmer
Fish farmers breed and look after fish and shellfish in small teams. Daily activities can include breeding or buying fish in large amounts, feeding, and monitoring fish health and maintaining buildings, equipment, and habitats. They can progress into areas like fisheries management, biological science or environmental research by taking a degree qualification.
Aquarium Fish Breeder
An aquarium fish breeder creates a business where freshwater and/or saltwater fish are bred for the aquarium market. They supply the aquaculture industry with fish - this is a very important job as it ensures availability of species that may become extinct.
Fishing Hand
A fishing hand maintains nets and fishing equipment, as well as sorts and cleans the catch on a commercial fishing boat. Daily tasks can include cleaning and sorting the fish and taking care of the fishing gear – you can progress to a fisherman or deck captain as well.
Fish Hatchery Technician
A fish hatchery technician takes care of the wellbeing of the different fish kept at a hatchery. They help maintain the tanks and check the water quality. Activities can include keeping records of the growth of new eggs or hatchlings, maintaining the condition and water within the tanks, and assisting in the feeding of the fish.
