This highly practical course is an ideal starting point for those students with few formal qualifications. Covering the basics of handling, feeding and the setting up of accommodation for a wide range of species including aquatic and farm animals. These skills are learnt in our custom-built Animal Management Unit, Fisheries Hatchery and the College Farm. Units of study may include: Being organised, caring for and feeding animals, accommodating animals, aquatics environments and health of animals.

  • What qualification will I gain?

    Level 1 Qualification in Land-Based Studies

  • Entry Requirements

    Minimum of 2 GCSEs at D - E / 3 - 2 Grade or equivalent (Entry Level 3).

    You should also have a keen interest in the subject and demonstrate a commitment to the curriculum area.

    If you don't have formal qualifications to meet these requirements, we will be able to assess your readiness during the admission process.

  • What progression options will I have?

    Successful completion of this qualifcation will allow you to apply for a Level 2 qualfication, typically students progress to the Animal Care, Agriculture or Fisheries Level 2.

  • What costs are involved?

    Tuition Fees: 16-18 - free 19+ - £1650 Exam and Registration Fees (payable by all aged 19 and over): £135 This course may also attract additional costs, for example, kit, uniform or books, that all students will be required to pay. Please contact the College for further details.

  • How will I be assessed?

    Teaching is a mix of theory and practical sessions. When a practical session occurs this will be supported with a Technical Instructor.

    Assessment will be via practical and theory assessments sat throughout the year programme.
